The Story of Windlehill
Windlehill Farm is a 10 acre organic farm set in quiet countryside between Derby and Ashbourne. Our family have farmed here since the 1880s and we are proud of our farming heritage.
There has been a farm here from at least the 1600s and, from evidence we have found, probably much longer. Many of the outbuildings date back to Georgian and Victorian times.
Windlehill Farm was farmed by the Fox family from the 1880s. They farmed as tenants of the Stretton Brewing family until purchasing the farm in the 1920s. Joan’s Great Uncle was the last Fox to farm here before we bought the farm in 1985.
In 1994 we opened the Chop House as a self catering cottage. This was followed by our work live apartment, the Hay Loft. Our final vacant cattle sheds were converted into four small business units.
The Chop House will now being let on a residential basis.
Our land is now farmed by our family at Windle Farm, next door, where they keep a herd of organic dairy cattle.
